KATHARINE HILL, MS, MAT, ET/P - FOUNDER
I’m an innovative executive functioning learning specialist working with adults, college and graduate students, adolescents, and kids in developing executive functioning skills, understanding their own cognitive processes, and developing strategies to support success. My education-focused private practice, UpNext Learning, serves children, families, and institutional clients, while my adult professional practice serves adults with ADHD, ASD, NVLD, and related concerns. In my work with students, I use an educational therapy lens in order to support the whole person, including academic and socio-emotional needs, and have been accredited as an Educational Therapist, Professional (ET/P) through the Association of Educational Therapists. Educational therapy focuses on the client’s academic outcomes at a holistic level and is not psychotherapy or counseling. I have over 20 years of experience as a learning specialist, classroom teacher, and university administrator and faculty member. Among others, I am trained in and use the Hochman Method (The Writing Revolution), Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD), and Orton-Gillingham approaches in my work. I hold an AB in History and an MA in Teaching from Brown University, an MS in Special Education from UND, and an Advanced Certificate in Reading Science PK-12 from Brooklyn College. I serve as an adjunct faculty member in Special Education at Hunter College/CUNY, hold a SHRM-CP credential, and am a NY State Certified Litigation Mediator focusing on institutional, workplace, and family conflict.
SARAH STRAUSS, PhD - LEARNING SPECIALIST
Sarah has worked as a provider with UpNext since 2022 and has more than twenty years of teaching experience. She works with high school through graduate students, and with adults. At the center of her approach to teaching is developing connections with each of her clients — connections that help students grow and achieve beyond what they had believed was possible. She specializes in helping clients of various learning profiles engage as critical and thoughtful readers and writers of texts. Sarah has taught college and graduate school courses, and has served as a tutor in academic resources serving students with a wide range of learning profiles.
